SUBHUMAN THEATRE

The One Person Project is a proposal to build a hi-tech, interactive installation in public space. The installation is a complex technological facility with many strictly defined functions. Visually, the object is anthropomorphic figure, built by:

1.1. Modular steel frame construction

1.2. Two-sided LED screens 42 pcs. iMPOSA® E III Display with total area 62 m2 *

Dynamic content is delivered to the screens, which is generated by a computer algorithm in conditionally two modes.2.1. The first mode is associated with a signal received live from a live camera and a motion tracking system. During a certain interval of time, a short recording of the video surveillance is uploaded to some of the screens, each of which has "caught" one or several passers-by. Such a large "screen body" looks composed of many other smaller pieces, reflecting the "pulse" of the city.

2.2. The second mode is to build / add temporary saved short entries from the last 24 hours. These recordings will be dynamically organized using a dedicated computer algorithm. Technologically, this is the most innovative part of the project. With the widespread introduction of technology in our everyday life, computer management of multiple infrastructure and environment-related systems, the amount of data often collected by real-time sensors increases in geometric progression. This type of data forms a new information space, called - BigData. Our desire is to create a program code that works with such data as Big Data by collecting, analyzing and visualizing information about the city, its dynamics, environmental quality, etc. Visualizing and interpreting this information as an artistic material, will provide a new perspective for the city and its inhabitants.
Both modes of screen content generation work synergistically in building a homogeneous visual environment.

The One Person installation falls into the category of process-oriented art, in which ways of interacting with the work are a compiled and meaningful element. Through its functionality, the work is separated from the author's control and is a flexible structure that depends on people's behavior and environmental change. The place where the work is located requires such an approach. Modern technologies allow open access systems to be built, with a rather liberal rather than authoritarian way of functioning. The object built on this principle would be a good reflection of the public image at the present time.
The figure that dominates the public space is not a specific historical person but a collection of a constantly changing set of occasional passers-by or targeted visitors. The interactive element leads to the possibility of gameplay, but could lead to acute social messages. Building such a platform would be a good sign for the development of the democratic processes in our country.

The proposal we are making to the committee is to develop together with the Sofia Municipality the project in a next stage called the Screen Arts Platform. We suggest reconfigured individual LED displays and metal modular design to form a screen with standard proportions. It will be approximately 12 x 7 m, situated in an active area in the public space, which can be specified after careful consideration and analysis of the urban environment. Da LAB Foundation can engage with the organization: administrative and content-centered on this media platform. Our idea is to create an alternative for presenting a wide range of screen arts: experimental film, video art, festival screenings, selection of short films, telematic art, etc.

The "Screen Arts Platform" will be available to various cultural organizations and institutions, to festivals organizers, to group and stand-alone authors' projects.
Our proposal aims to ensure the sustainability of the initiative related to the development of art in a public environment, as well as to extend the benefit of the public funds invested in the project.
